Futakuchi-onna, or the two-mouthed woman, are said to be created to counteract the tiny appetites of fuedal-era Japanese women. Because the women do not eat much with the mouths on their faces, another one opens on the back of the head in order to consume the food the body lacks. It is said that the hair of the woman will develop a will of its own and act as "hands" or small mouths to ferry the food to the second mouth.

The Pokemon Mawile is based on this "monster."
